About

@leisure has been engaged by the City of Ryde to review Council's sportsground policies and services.
The City of Ryde has ninety five (95) sportsgrounds that provide for a variety of sporting opportunities for the Ryde community. These facilities are currently used by in excess of fifty (50) community and commercial organisations delivering a broad variety of sport and recreation activities. The demand being placed on these facilities is continually increasing and the City of Ryde has engaged @leisure to undertake a Best Value Review (BVR) that will ensure that the provision, allocation and management of sportsgrounds is responsive to the needs of the community.

What is a Best Value Review (BVR)?
Best value provides a framework for the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of local authority services.

The purpose of this BVR is to analyse the approaches used by the City of Ryde in the provision of sportsgrounds to the local community, comparing these with current industry best practice and make recommendations to achieve best practice levels.

The Sportsgrounds BVR will examine:
  • Council’s current booking and hiring system
  • How does Council respond to the varying needs of the community and sporting associations / organisations?
  • Are there elements of Council’s sportsgrounds allocation and management that can be improved?
  • Does Council charge suitable fees for the use of sporting facilities?
  • What is the current value of contributions to the capital infrastructure upgrades by sporting organisations?
  • The definition of seasons – summer, winter and preseason use
  • Council’s sportsground wet weather policies
  • Council’s maintenance regime
  • Current usage levels and demand
  • User's views of playing surfaces and facilities
